Welcome. I’m Shannon, a London-born Ireland-raised poet, writer and creative freelancer living in Norwich, UK.

I have a BA in English Literature with Creative Writing and an MA in Medieval and Early Modern Textual Cultures, both from the University of East Anglia where I am currently working on my PhD.

I have been working as a creative freelancer, writer and performance poet for the past four years. You can find out more about my work below.

I have worked with organisations and institutions including Norwich Theatre Royal, Young Norfolk Arts and the National Centre for Writing. I have performed on BBC Radio Norfolk and on stages and in schools across Norwich and Norfolk. I have over four years of experiencing in literary publishing in the UK and US across social media, copywriting, proofreading and as a managing editor. My creative work has been published by Bandit Fiction, Leslie Magazine, The Rialto and Anthropocene.

Publishing, Proofreading and Copywriting

I got my start in publishing interning for the UEA Publishing Project, eventually managing the production, scheduling and reception of social media content for their Strangers Press and Boiler House Press imprints. I then worked as a proofreader, copywriter and Jill-of-all-trades for Can of Worms Press in the UK and its sister Leapfrog Press in the US, where I became Managing Editor. I have written cover copy for the commercial market as well as content for sales conferences and pitches. I am available for freelance copywriting, proofreading and developmental editing. You can find out more about books I have worked on here.

Poetry, Performance and Creative Freelancing

I have performed my creative work at events, poetry nights, on festival and theatre stages and in schools. My poetry and fiction has been published both in print and online. I have been commissioned by the National Centre for Writing, acted as the Poetry category judge for the 2023 East Anglian Book Awards, and sat on advisory and funding panels for Norwich Theatre Royal and Norfolk Community Foundation respectively. I have experience giving writing workshops for all ages and with one-on-one mentoring.

Academic Work

As an academic, my research is mostly in the sphere of early modern literature, particularly work from the seventeenth century. I am currently working on my PhD, examining notions of nationhood and identity formation in early modern writing on Ireland from 1631-40. Previously, I worked on women’s devotional poetry in the seventeenth century.

While I am engaged in PhD research, I am also available for freelance work as a creative and commercial writer and editor. I am currently working on a pamphlet of poetry and a literary fiction novel.
